Fun Facts:

-During Bush’s term, the Soviet Union collapsed and the Cold War ended. He also led the U.S. in the 1991 Gulf War against Iraq. But economic troubles at home cost him his reelection bid.

-Bush was the first sitting Vice President to be elected President since Martin Van Buren


Today in History: June 6th

In 1872, Susan B. Anthony was fined for voting in a presidential election in Rochester, New York. After voting rights had been granted for African American males, she attempted to extend the same rights to women. In August of 1920, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, thus allowing women to vote.

In 1944, this day became the largest amphibious landing in history- D-Day.

In 1978, California voters approved Proposition 13, an amendment to the state constitution severely limiting property tax rates.
